Dirty Martini

Day 205

Dirty Martini
4 shots out of 5

A Dirty Martini is the perfect vodka and olive combination.

June 1st is National Olive Day!

What better way to celebrate it then with a Dirty Martini!  The perfect combination of vodka (well almost anything goes with vodka) and olive juice!

Opening Night for our cities soccer league was a success!  Soccer season is officially underway!  Time for the craziness to begin!

Between three soccer teams, one baseball team and Tae Kwon Do......sometimes I'm not sure which way is up.  That's when these nightly cocktails really come in handy.

I gave tonight's cocktail 4 shots out of 5.

I LOVE GREEN OLIVES.  Let me just get that out of the way.

When I was a kid and everyone ordered their coke, 7-up, Roy Rodgers or Shirley Temples and they either asked for or automatically got a cherry......NOT me, no sir-ee, I made sure I ordered mine with olives (yes plural, one olive just wouldn't do).  I got the looks and the "with OLIVES?!?!" from most of the waiters and waitresses, and with a big smile I would say, "YES, with oliveSSSS".

The dry vermouth in this cocktail is different, not sure that I like it all that much, buy hey give me another 203 days and I'll bet that will change!

I DO like the fact that I get to pour olive juice inside my cocktail and put many olives in it as well.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is the recipe for a Dirty Martini:

  • 1 1/2 oz vodka
  • 1/4 oz dry vermouth
  • 1/2 oz green olive juice

In a shaker add ice, vodka and dry vermouth.  Shake it up well and strain it into your martini glass.  Pour your olive juice inside and give it a good stir.

Here's to being able to put olive juice in my cocktail!  Too fun.........for me at least!

Cheers!!

    1. Agreed!! That loooong line for the hot dogs said it all. They all could have left and went somewhere else to get dinner faster, yet they all stayed in line to support a family in need. I LOVE our little town!!

  2. All I have to say about the cocktail is... ohhhhhhhhhhhh yes! Now about the olives... is it too much to put the whole jar in? Green olives go in everything! But my favorite I think is beer. I always ask for tons if I can get em and leave a huge tip so they will remember me for next time!

    1. Hahahahahaha, I love that you are an "Olive Enthusiast" like myself, haha. I HATE to admit it, but I've NEVER EVER had olives in my beer, so guess what I'm going to do next time I get a beer on tap, oh yea, bring on the olives!! Thanks for the idea!

  3. Oh yes, I lurve these. They are considered "dirty" if they have the olive juice in it. I jokingly ordered one "filthy dirty" once and only later discovered that is a real description for the freaks like us that enjoy a healthy swig of the brine. Then I learned that the less vermouth included, the more it is "dry". Thus, I like my martini "very dry, filthy dirty, shaken not stirred, with extra olives, please".

My brother once laughingly opened a bottle, waved it over the glass, then put the top back on without actually pouring anything except some fumes. :) I think I do prefer it with just a touch of the vermouth.

    1. OH NO, that was not a fair thing your brother did, haha. Yes, a touch of vermouth is good, if you add any more then that....I don't think I'll like it much.

      I LOVE this:
"I like my martini "very dry, filthy dirty, shaken not stirred, with extra olives, please". "

      Cheers!!

    3. Olives are addictive though for me an acquired taste. I never liked them until recently. Just the other night at a party, I scarfed down practically all the homemade green olive tapenade before anyone else got a crack at it. Even before I liked olives, I would have an occasional dirty martini because I liked ordering them. My wife would respond by asking for 'Sex on the Beach." I'm sure more than one server went back to the kitchen to tell the rest of the staff there were a couple of freaks out there. But your "filthy dirty" is even better and since I have come to love olives, I'm sure I'll love it. BTW, I have a great technique for the vermouth that is not as extreme as yr brother's. I just splash the vermouth onto the ice first, not worrying about getting too much but then I pour it off using the little strainer and then add my vodka or gin before shaking or stirring. That way I;m only using the vermouth that stuck to the ice. Just the right amount of dryness for me.
