Mint Chip

Day 97

Mint Chip
2.5 shots out of 5

"If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try again".  -William Edward Hickson

I am going to have to give this cocktail a new formula and try it again.  I do have faith that I can make something that pleases my tastes a bit more.  I think the problem with this recipe that I found is that this Mint Chip tastes too overwhelmingly minty.

Imagine my disappointment.......Mint Chip ice cream is one of my 2 most absolute favorite flavors EVER!!

I saw the recipe for this cocktail on a PDF emailed to me from Sandi (Thank You again).

This PDF is from Pinnacle Vodka and has a lot of recipes on it (Sandi, the more I look at it, the more I'm realizing that the last third of the PDF is sort of a repeat of the previous cocktails, just down sized and renamed, haha).

I sure do wish I liked this cocktail a LOT more then I do.

Side note, if you'd like me to email you the PDF,  shoot me an email and I'll send it on over.  Cocktailady@gmail.com

I gave tonight's cocktail 2.5 shots out of 5.

Not thrilled about it, I must say.

The mint flavor takes over........in a way that it shouldn't in a cocktail.

It kind of reminded me of a mouthful of mouth wash or something......yuck.

It was worth a try though.  If you look at my photo......ok......so I didn't have chocolate syrup, so I made a wet swirly inside the glass and sprinkled chocolate powder on it (TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE LET IT HARDEN.......PROBABLY IN THE FREEZER FOR A WHILE FIRST) and did the same on the rim.

My not so bright idea ended up making it mix into the cocktail when I poured it in, making the cocktail look a "little" darker then what it should look like.

If you look at the green color near the whipped cream on top, you'll get a better idea of it's color.

Here is a photo of the end result:

Here is a photo of the ingredients:

Here is the recipe for Mint Chip:

  • 2 shots whipped cream vodka
  • 1 shot creme de cacao
  • 1 shot creme de menthe
  • chocolate syrup (or hardened powder)
  • whipped cream

In a shaker add ice, vodka, creme de cacao and creme de menthe.  Shake it up real good.  In a martini glass, make your own special designs with the chocolate syrup (or powder) and strain your cocktail inside.  Top with a little bit of whipped cream.

Sandi, I'll definitely be trying more on that list!  Thank You again for sending it!!

Cheers!!

  1. I think it says the top portion is cocktails and the bottom portion is for shots. There are some that are nearly exactly the same but downsized, and some that seem similar but do have slightly different ingredients.

I'm so bummed to hear this didn't turn out so good. I've been out of dark creme de cacao so hadn't been able to make it. I just bought some more the other day and this was top on the list of things to try. I might have to make it anyway, but maybe in shot-sized. :) I'm also wondering if peppermint schnapps might give a different result than creme de menthe. They seem so similar, but I know I've gotten very different results from playing with them on other recipes. or perhaps a combo of the two so you still get the pretty green color. hmm, hope I have time to experiment tonight!

    1. You're right, it totally does. I was so focused on the ingredients in them all that I totally missed that.

Oh, absolutely try it! Maybe even make it 1 1/2 cacao and 1/2 mint, or something like that. The peppermint schnapps would put a little different twist on it, sure! It would think that it would make it more spicy mint, then minty mint. Let me know what you try and what you think about it!
